Aggie Power is New Mexico State University’s flagship renewable energy project, designed to support campus sustainability, research, and hands-on education. Located on a 29-acre site at Arrowhead Park in Las Cruces, the facility features a 3 MW single-axis tracking photovoltaic (PV) array comprising approximately 10,000 solar panels, along with a 1 MW / 4 MWh Tesla battery energy storage system. The project became fully operational on May 18, 2025, following an MOU signed in 2018. The construction was completed between December 2020 and December 2021, and system testing in early 2022. Aggie Power is operated by El Paso Electric under a 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA), with electricity supplied directly to NMSU. The facility provides roughly one-third of the university’s electricity demand, serves as a living laboratory for electrical engineering research and experiential learning, and supports NMSU’s commitment to sustainability, contributing to significant progress toward the university’s carbon-neutral-by-2050 goal.
